History

Home of Hope, Inc. (HOH) is a volunteer-driven nonprofit founded in 1999 by Dr. Nilima Sabharwal with a simple yet powerful purpose: to restore dignity, opportunity, and hope to vulnerable children across India. What began as a small, heartfelt effort has grown into a transformative movement that reaches thousands of disadvantaged, orphaned, and disabled children every year. HOH was built on the belief that every child—regardless of background—deserves education, safety, and a fair chance to build a meaningful life.

From its inception, HOH adopted a partnership-based model, working with trusted grassroots organizations that understand the needs of their local communities. Through these collaborations, HOH supports a wide spectrum of programs including K–12 education, college scholarships, vocational training, youth empowerment, disability inclusion, mental health services, and life-skills development. Its projects operate across multiple Indian states, creating long-term pathways for children to progress from survival to self-sufficiency.

What makes Home of Hope truly unique is its 100% volunteer structure — with no paid staff and minimal overhead, nearly every dollar donated directly supports children and project implementation. Over the past two decades, HOH has impacted well over a hundred thousand children, offering not only financial resources but mentorship, guidance, and steady emotional support.

Today, HOH continues to grow with the same spirit it was founded on: compassion, accountability, and the unwavering conviction that one act of kindness can change the course of a child’s life.
