Projects – PEHL

Supporting vulnerable children through education, counseling, medical care, crisis relief, and HOH-backed family rehabilitation.

Location & History:

PEHL Services, based in Mumbai with operations in Lucknow, is a not-for-profit supporting underprivileged and differently-abled children. It provides supplementary education, counseling, and medical care across seven destitute homes, along with community programs on child abuse and disabilities.

Its medical team has run major relief camps during disasters—Uttarakhand, Nepal, and Chennai—serving 10,000+ patients, and offers individual medical support when needed.

During COVID, Project Sharan helped families who lost wage earners, ensuring education for children and vocational support for mothers.

PEHL also receives a legacy HOH grant supporting 20 girls in Grades 9–10 with education, counseling, and vocational training.

Core Focus of the Project:

The mission of PEHL is to support disadvantaged and differently-abled children through education, counseling, medical care, and crisis-based relief.

Key highlights include:

  • Supplementary Education and Counseling Services across seven destitute homes
  • Medical Care and support for children and families in need
  • Awareness Programs on Child Abuse and Childhood Disabilities
  • Crisis Relief Camps during national disasters, serving over 10,000 patients
  • Project Sharan services for COVID-impacted families, including educational continuity and vocational training for mothers
  • Support for 20 destitute girls under the Bal Kalyan Nagiri Project

HOH Partnership: When & Why

HOH partnered with PEHL in 2021, recognizing the urgent need to support families devastated during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The primary goal was to ensure that affected children could continue their education while families—especially widowed mothers—received counseling and economic support to survive the shock of losing their main wage earner.

Impact of HOH Support

HOH support has had a measurable and transformative impact on PEHL’s initiatives, particularly for COVID-affected families.

Key outcomes include:
  • 119 children were initially onboarded during the height of the crisis
  • 103 children continue to receive ongoing educational support
  • Two beneficiaries have since become gainfully employed and are now supporting their families
  • Mothers of three beneficiaries have started successful small businesses with PEHL’s support
  • Sustained education, counseling, and vocational training provided to 20 destitute girls under the Bal Kalyan Nagiri Project

Vision for the Next Five Years

PEHL aims to continue investing deeply in the children and families currently under its care. Over the next five years, the focus will be on:

  • Supporting children as they progress into higher grades, college, and graduate studies
  • Ensuring long-term stability for families through vocational training and livelihood support
  • Strengthening and expanding the Bal Kalyan Nagiri Project
  • Increasing reach to destitute, economically challenged, and differently-abled children in Mumbai and other regions
  • Building self-esteem, confidence, and economic opportunities for children who would otherwise have limited access to such resources
