Projects – NAB

Empowering Visually Impaired Women Through Skills and Opportunity.

Location & History:

The project is located in Hauz Khas Enclave, South-West Delhi (India) and was started in 2002.

Core Focus of the Project:

The project focuses on livelihood generation for adult visually impaired women through innovative skills training and holistic development programs. Key highlights include:

  • Comprehensive skill-building programs to prepare women for independent and fulfilling lives
  • Psycho-socio-career counseling, personality development, and self-advocacy training
  • Exposure visits, workshops on self-defense, reproductive health, theatre, yoga, and meditation
  • Safe and high-quality boarding and lodging facilities during training
  • Post-placement and lifetime support, including marriage support for working blind women if required

The overall objective is to create an ecosystem where visually impaired women can thrive with confidence, dignity, and long-term independence.

HOH Partnership: When & Why

HOH partnered with NAB in 2022, following a recommendation from Ms. Pamela Bhandari, then Treasurer and Board Member of NAB India Centre, who had long-standing connections with HOH.

HOH was seeking reliable, mission-aligned partners in India, and the collaboration quickly evolved into a shared vision. This led to the creation of the NAB–HOH–MEET online program, a signature initiative offering weekly empowerment sessions for visually impaired youth in Delhi and Odisha.

As HOH witnessed the tangible impact of NAB’s work, its support grew to include financial assistance for training programs, further strengthening the partnership and amplifying impact.

Impact of HOH Support

HOH’s support has enabled significant progress and measurable outcomes, including:

  • 71 visually impaired women and men benefited from skill-building and employment-focused programs since 2022
  • 25 participants secured employment in the recent past
  • Support for Khatra, a visually impaired refugee from Afghanistan, who received psychological, medical, and employability assistance and has since relocated to Australia with her family
  • Smartphones provided to 29 blind women, enabling greater independence and accessibility in daily life
  • Implementation of CRM-based technology, enhancing professional learning and operational efficiency
  • Weekly online empowerment workshops by HOH volunteers covering topics such as general awareness, socio-cultural learning, hygiene, financial literacy, mental health, and soft skills

This multi-layered support has expanded opportunities and strengthened NAB’s ability to deliver high-impact training and guidance.

Vision for the Next Five Years

NAB envisions expanding the program beyond Delhi, reaching marginalized communities across multiple states in India.

Key aspirations include:

  • Increasing the number of visually impaired beneficiaries receiving skills and employment support
  • Strengthening the employer network through HOH collaborations to create more job opportunities
  • Enhancing national and international visibility through summits, exchange programs, and conferences in partnership with HOH

With ongoing support, the project aims to scale its reach, deepen its impact, and empower more visually impaired youth across India.
