Projects – VAMSF

Empowering Bay Area youth through STEM scholarships in memory of Vipin Agrawal.

Location & History:

The Vipin Agrawal Memorial Scholarship Fund (VAMSF) is based in the San Francisco Bay Area and was created to honor the life and passion of Vipin Agrawal, whose deep love for software engineering and STEM continues to inspire future generations.
Home of Hope partnered with VAMSF in 2021,recognizing the tremendous potential of this locally rooted scholarship program to uplift deserving students in California. Through dedicated volunteers and community support, VAMSF has grown into a meaningful platform advancing educational equity for underrepresented youth.

Core Focus of the Project:

VAMSF was established by the Agrawal family to support high-potential students who face financial, social, or personal barriers in accessing public universities. The fund awards scholarships annually to California public high school seniors and university students pursuing STEM majors—including computer science, engineering, mathematics, and related fields.
As a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit, VAMSF raises funds through community outreach and volunteer initiatives, ensuring that motivated young scholars receive the financial support and encouragement they need to pursue their academic and professional goals.

HOH Partnership: When & Why

Home of Hope partnered with VAMSF in 2021 to build a meaningful local presence in the Bay Area while advancing HOH’s core mission of empowering youth through education. This collaboration holds significant value for several reasons:

  • Strong mission alignment: VAMSF’s commitment to supporting underprivileged students through education reflects the heart of HOH’s global charter.
  • Donor base expansion: A local program allows HOH to engage individuals who prefer donating to nearby causes, while gradually introducing them to HOH’s broader international work.
  • Corporate engagement: Many Bay Area companies support nonprofits that create local impact. VAMSF opens doors for HOH to participate in CSR programs, employee matching portals, and corporate partnerships.
  • Growth in revenue and recognition: A strong local chapter strengthens HOH’s nonprofit standing and visibility, especially within California’s philanthropic ecosystem.
  • Youth engagement: Students growing up in the Bay Area resonate deeply with local issues. VAMSF provides a meaningful entry point for youth volunteers, advocates, and future leaders—ensuring long-term continuity for HOH’s mission.

Impact of HOH Support

Through HOH’s partnership, seven students have already received life-changing access to higher education, with the first VAMSF–HOH scholar graduating in 2025.

This support has enabled students to pursue STEM degrees at California public universities, helping them overcome financial limitations and move toward stable, impactful careers.

Vision for the Next Five Years

VAMSF aims to grow sustainably by adding two new scholars each year, ensuring high-quality support and long-term engagement with every student.

The focus will include:

  • Continued financial assistance for deserving STEM students
  • Expanded mentorship, career guidance, and networking opportunities
  • Deeper community and volunteer involvement to strengthen the program’s foundation
  • Building a vibrant pipeline of future leaders from underserved backgrounds
