Projects – Prajwala

A pioneering anti-trafficking organization dedicated to ending sex trafficking through its comprehensive five-pillar model

Location & History:

Prajwala is located in Hyderabad and was established in 1996.
It is a pioneering anti–trafficking organization focused on ending sex trafficking and sex crimes. For 27 years, Prajwala has worked through five pillars —Prevention, Protection, Rescue, Rehabilitation, and Reintegration— to combat sex slavery at every level.

As one of the strongest national and global voices advocating for survivor-centered services, the organization has assisted police authorities in rescuing thousands of women and girls and guiding them on their path to recovery. Prajwala is both an organization and an “idea,” proving that sex slavery is unacceptable and that strategic interventions can prevent exploitation, reduce demand, and protect survivors.

Core Focus of the Project:

Prajwala’s core mission is to eradicate sex trafficking through a comprehensive, survivor-centric approach.

Key highlights include:

  • A five-pillar model: Prevention, Protection, Rescue, Rehabilitation, and Reintegration
  • Thousands of women and girls rescued from sex slavery
  • Trauma-informed rehabilitation, including education, vocational training, and psychosocial care
  • Long-term reintegration support to restore dignity and independence
  • National and international advocacy to advance victim-centered anti-trafficking efforts

HOH Partnership: When & Why

HOH partnered with Prajwala in 2018 after recognizing the profound trauma faced by victims of sex trafficking, especially those exploited at a young age.

The goal of the partnership has been to support their recovery through education, mental health care, and empowerment programs, enabling these young women to rebuild their lives with dignity.

Impact of HOH Support

HOH support has significantly strengthened Prajwala’s rehabilitation programs.

Key outcomes include:

  • 115 girls gained access to professional courses, higher education, and vocational training
  • 259 girls are currently enrolled in the K–12 education system
  • 350 students and staff benefited from the tractor used for organic farming, which sustains the residents with nutritious food
  • 700 girls received structured mental health interventions provided by a clinical psychologist—an essential component in trauma recovery and rebuilding trust

Vision for the Next Five Years

Looking ahead, Prajwala and HOH aim to ensure:

  • Continued funding for professional courses, vocational training, and K–12 education for all eligible girls
  • Sustained investment in high-quality mental health support through trained counselors and psychotherapists
  • A stable corpus fund dedicated to uninterrupted therapeutic care, ensuring long-term, trauma-informed services
  • A three-phase therapeutic model that strengthens victims’ confidence, supports reintegration, and nurtures leadership and autonomy among survivors

Where the Project Is Headed in the Next Five Years

The next phase emphasizes deepened mental health infrastructure, recognizing that survivors of sex trafficking face lasting physical, emotional, and psychological trauma.

With a skilled in-house psychotherapist:

  • Survivors receive tailored, trauma-informed therapy
  • Interventions bridge cultural, linguistic, and social barriers
  • A multidisciplinary approach helps rebuild identity, trust, and emotional stability
  • Structured therapy empowers survivors to reintegrate into society and develop independence and leadership

A long-term goal is to retain top-quality mental health counselors, which requires reliable and sustained funding. Building a dedicated corpus will ensure uninterrupted therapeutic care for every survivor.
